ℹ️ About Lake County Lightning / Illinois Lightning

Lake County Lightning / Illinois Lightning is a nonprofit travel baseball and softball organization based in Mundelein, Illinois, serving families throughout Lake County and Chicago’s northern suburbs. Founded in 2001 as the Mundelein Red Devils by Jerry Fox and renamed Lake County Lightning in 2003, the program has grown into a multi-level organization offering youth baseball through Lake County Lightning (8U–14U), high-school baseball through Illinois Lightning and Elite Baseball (15U–18U), and girls’ fastpitch softball through Illinois Lightning (9U–18U). The organization emphasizes fundamental skill development, teamwork, discipline, sportsmanship, and competitive opportunities at local, regional, and national tournaments.

Lightning athletes have access to year-round training at The Bolt 2.0, a 30,000-square-foot indoor baseball and softball facility in Mundelein featuring batting and pitching cages, defensive training areas, throwing space, and strength-training equipment. The organization also uses multiple outdoor fields throughout Lake County, including Behm Park in Grayslake and Field of Dreams in Ingleside. Its older baseball and softball programs emphasize preparation for high-school competition and potential college opportunities, with recruiting resources available to participating athletes. Families considering Lightning should confirm age-specific team placement, coaching assignments, annual fees, tournament schedules, travel expectations, and current roster openings directly with the organization.
